Susie, the only woman ever to win the bothy ballad singing
competition at the world-famous Auchtermuchty folk festival,
brings a refreshing touch to eleven songs from the East of Scotland.
"She has a lovely, firm, pure-toned voice, untainted as yet by
stylistic mannerisms, and brings a delightful freshness to these
mainly ancient ballads," wrote The Scotsman, finding Tipsy Courting "An excellent debut."
Includes popular North East songs such as Peggy Gordon, Mormond
Braes, McFarlane o The Sprots, Nicky Tams and the muckle ballad Mill o Tifty.
From Angus there's Hey Donal, and from Fife, Matt Armour's
Generations of Change. The Ploughman Laddies are in there, with Flo'er o Northumberland
and, probably the highlight of the CD, Banks of Red Roses.
Jim
Malcolm accompanies on guitars, harmonicas and backing vocals, with Nick
Keir of the McCalmans
on whistles and Mairi Campbell on fiddle and viola.
