Heritage, by John R. Allan.

This
novel written about the same time as Farmer’s Boy and perhaps at the
sam
e time, was
found among his papers after Allan’s death in 1986. It investigates
the same theme – the relationship between a young man and, this time
principally, his grandfather. A high flying London whizz kid goes to
recuperate with his grandparents on their farm in Aberdeenshire. The old
man eventually helps the young man see that there is more to life than
the gold in London and the young man persuades the old to modernise his
farm – even if he may not be there to enjoy the fruits. Green Heritage
was published in 1992.
